Homemade Honey Lemon Turmeric Mask For All Your Skin Problems

Turmeric has been all the hype lately because of it’s raved about health benefits. Mostly native to India and Asia, this trending superfood has been around for thousands of years and has been used for various things from cooking to medicine.

The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very powerful antioxidant. The perfect combination for a face mask right? There are even claims that turmeric helps even and brighten skin tone while also fading any acne marks. AMAZING RIGHT?

Okay okay I know you guys are dying for this face mask recipe right? Here it is:


  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • Splash of apple cider vinegar

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp unrefined coconut oil

  • 1 tbsp yogurt

  • A few drops of lemon

  • Flour (optional)

Apple cider vinegar is a natural astringent and can help level out the pH levels of your skin. 

I wrote UNREFINED coconut oil because this is important. There is a huge difference between refined coconut oil and unrefined coconut oil, mostly that refined coconut oil has been processed and bleached. Here is an excerpt from SFGate explaining an aspect of the difference:

When coconut oil is refined, the baking and bleaching reduces the number of polyphenols and medium-chain fatty acids available. These compounds are what offer the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits; thus, unrefined coconut oil may be better if you’re taking it to boost your health. Refined coconut oil isn’t devoid of these nutrients, it just has fewer.

Yogurt is known for naturally fighting bacteria, clearing acne, preventing premature aging, relieving sunburns, and reducing skin discoloration. 

And lastly, lemon helps fight acne and brighten the skin.

Every ingredient in this mask has a purpose in giving you the best skin possible. Here are the directions.


  1. In a bowl or container, add all of your ingredients together. Add flour for some exfoliating effects to get rid of dry, dead skin. Basically any kind of flour works. The mask should be at a consistency where it can stick to your face. Add more honey if it needs thickening or more coconut oil if it needs to be watered down.

  2. Once your mixture is completed and ready for use, it’s time to prep your face. Clean your face completely. Pat your face completely dry with a towel. Don’t rub! We’re also trying to avoid premature wrinkling here.

  3. While making sure your hands are clean too, generously apply the mask all over your face. (Or use a brush? Whatever your heart desires!). Avoid your eyes and hairline — turmeric could stain something you don't want staining. Oh yeah. I forgot to mention how easily turmeric stains. Be careful while handling it!

  4. Now it’s time for the mask to sit and work it's magic for about twenty minutes. Perfect opportunity to book your next Slay appointment ;)

  5. Apply twice a week for the best results.

BTW everything in this mask is super accessible at any local food store and is very easy to find. Most of these ingredients are probably already sitting inside your refrigerator or pantry.
